Flat Kim goes international!

Well, it looks like our Flat Stanley project has now gone international! That means that a flat person has now went to another country. Actually, she even went to another continent! Ms. Clark's friend took Flat Kim with him to Paris, France. Look at the map above. France is located on the continent of Europe. France is a much, much older country than the United States. Actually, some French explorers came to our continent, North America, to begin colonies.

Flat Kim visits Notre Dame. Notre Dame is a cathedral, which is like a church. Construction began in 1163, so this building is around 600 years older than our country, the United States!

Flat Kim has a beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower is the tallest monument and building in Paris, France. It was constructed in 1889. It is one of the most well known features of Paris. It could be compared to the Statue of Liberty in the United States.

Wow...Flat Kim is actually viewing the Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa is one of the most famous paintings in the world. It was painted by Leonardo Da Vinci in the early 1500s. Once again, something else that is older than our country!

Flat Kim is getting ready to tour the Louvre. The Louvre is the most visited art museum in the world. The Mona Lisa is on display there.

A sneak peak......

Look at Flat Marie learning to be a news reporter at NBC 13 in Birmingham, AL! Her host,  Mike Royer, has been terrific about sending us updates on her visit. So have many of the other great hosts that agreed to take our flat visitors. Below are some of the updates we've received so far. We'll post more when they arrive home, but for now take a sneak peak of their travels......

Flat Julia looking at Yosemite National Park. Wow...it's gorgeous!

Flat Kyla is at the Oklahoma City Memorial.

Flat Mackenzie is at the state fair in North Carolina. Her hosts have asked her to stay all school year long! What fun!

Flat Orlando is in Hawaii! He's a long way from home!

Flat Sara is checking out the trains at the Pacific Railroad Memorial.

Flat Stanley home from San Diego

Flat Stanley traveled to California. It is located on the east coast of the United States.

One of our classroom Flat Stanleys just returned from Cabrillo National Monument in San Diego, CA. Check out some of the history of this national park at http://www.nps.gov/cabr/.

Flat Josilin visits the 105.1 WQSB Studios in Albertville, AL! Plus, Flat Taryn is back from St. Augustine!

Flat Josilin traveled in our wonderful state of Alabama.

Flat Josilin has returned to Carlisle after visiting the 105.1 WQSB Studios in Albertville, AL!  She returned with some great pictures and an amazing tale of her adventures in radio!

Flat Josilin was very excited to visit the WQSB studios!

She learned that 105.1 WQSB & AM 630 have their studios in the same building!

Flat Josilin got to work right away!

She learned that being a radio DJ is a lot more work than just talking!

Radio DJ's have to pick out the songs that listeners want to hear and program them in the computer to play.  Flat Josilin was always willing to play the songs listeners requested, just like the regular WQSB employees.

Flat Josilin got a little confused! There are so many buttons and switches!

She decided she'd just try to sing a song herself!

After her shift was over, Flat Josilin took a tour of the studios.  She saw many neat things, including this old radio!

She was excited to see all of the pictures of famous country musicians.  Here she is with the famous group, Alabama!

Look at all the autographed pictures!

Flat Josilin made a lot of friends at WQSB and is very grateful for everyone's hospitality! She loves listening to "Alabama's Country Giant, 105.1 WQSB!"

Flat Taryn traveled to Florida, our southern neighbor.

Flat Taryn is back from St. Augustine, FL. Boy, you should see her pictures of the Castillo de San Marcos. It's the oldest castle in the United States! Her host sent us developed pictures along with Flat Taryn, and they will be up on our Flat Stanley Spotlight soon! You can learn more about this national park by going to http://www.nps.gov/casa/.

Washington D.C. - our nation's capital

The real Joselin and Taryn are first cousins, and their grandparents took a Flat Stanley with them to Washington, DC recently. They brought us back lots of great pictures and really interesting brochures! Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Young!

Get out the Tomahawk.....Flat Joseph is back!

Flat Joseph traveled to Atlanta, Georgia. Georgia is our eastern neighbor.

As you can tell by the pictures, we have more adventures with our flat people every day!  Erin Sheehan showed Flat Joseph a great time at Turner Field - the home of the Atlanta Braves! Flat Joseph came home with lots of souvenirs and wonderful memories of being a Brave!

Flat Joseph visited the Grounds Crew Headquarters. They work every day to keep the field ready for games. Flat Joseph is ready to mow Turner Field.
