Flat Stanley wants to attend Snead State Community College!

Flat Stanley went to visit the awesome Miranda Collier and the Ambassadors at Snead State Community College. He loved meeting the students, faculty, and even the President, Dr. Robert Axley! He gave him some great advice for his future. The best advice according to Flat Stanley was....when you think you've learned everything, it's time to learn something new. Flat Stanley really wants to be a Parson when he grows up!  He brought back some pictures of his visit to Carlisle!

Flat Stanley begins his visit at Snead State Community College!

Flat Stanley couldn't wait to see what college was like!

There are so many things he wanted to see!  Where to start?

Flat Stanley stopped for a picture outside the historic Administration Building.

Flat Stanley met his tour guide, Dillon Dyer.  Dillon was a great guide and awesome friend to Stanley!

Dillon is a member of the Ambassadors.  The Ambassadors are Snead State students who perform many duties around campus, including tours.  They were a really great group!

The tour started at the Norton Building.  The Norton Building has been recently renovated to house the Social Science classes.

The Norton Building will be holding a special dedication ceremony in November.  Dillon and the Ambassadors will be helping out.

Next, Dillon took Flat Stanley to the S.U.B. or Student Union Building.  This building is where students go to hang out between classes.  Students can watch television, play games, and just hang out in here.

Beside the S.U.B. is the fountain.  The fountain is under the famous pine trees of Snead State.  Students come out here to study and relax outside.

Next, Dillon took Flat Stanley to the Math & Science Building.  Can you guess what classes are held in here?  He saw a lot of neat experiments!

After, Flat Stanley was ready for lunch.  Dillon took him to the Snead State Cafeteria.  There are some really nice ladies that work there, just like at Carlisle!  He had some terrific chicken fingers for lunch and continued his tour!

Dillon took Flat Stanley to the Cosmetology Building next.  He got a haircut from students who are perfecting their cosmetology skills.  They did a great job!

Snead State has its very own water tower!

Flat Stanley learned that Snead State has different sports: Volleyball, Men's & Women's Basketball, Softball & Baseball, Tennis, Cheerleading, and Dance.  Stanley took a picture with the volleyball team.  They were raising money by selling delicious cookies!

Dillon took Flat Stanley to visit the Snead State President, Dr. Robert Exley.  He was very friendly and encouraged me to never stop learning.  

Flat Stanley learned that students can attend Snead State classes in Boaz and at the Arab site.

Flat Stanley can't wait to attend Snead State after high school!

Flat Stanley Friday

Mr. Hubbard,  Mrs. Towns, and Mrs. Wardrup have tried to find the best way to learn about our flat travels this school year. So, we have decided that every Friday will be Flat Stanley Friday!  We will learn about geography, history, and different cultures each week from our flat travelers. Our flat people will also be on display for one week on our Flat Stanley Spotlight bulletin board in the lunchroom. We want everybody in the school to get to travel along with us!  We will post as many adventures as we can on our blog, but some flat travelers will be coming back with their pictures already developed. Unfortunately, these pictures will not be on our blog, but they will definitely be on display at school!  Our real people will not bring their flat people home until the end of the school year. We want to keep them safe at school to complete our year long travels by researching our travels using atlases, almanacs, and the Internet. This is going to be an exciting school year!

Our Flat Stanley project is coming along great! Some of our flat people are beginning to return! Take a look at the link below. Two of our wonderful Etowah County Board of Education personnel, Dr. Kim Mintz and Mrs. Melissa Shields accompanied Flat Stanley on a tour of our county facilities. Flat Stanley met our superintendent, Dr. Alan Cosby, and many other important employees who make Etowah County the best school system in the state!

We received a Tartan Flat Stanley from Scotland. Look at his plaid pants and tie. Guess we'll have to learn why the Scottish wear plaid!

We have been fortunate that almost every person we asked agreed to take a flat person. We are actually still receiving emails from people who want a flat person! We now have more destinations than students! Therefore, each homeroom will be sending extra Flat Stanleys to people all over the United States and the world, including France, Scotland, Switzerland, Chile, Canada, and Korea! We are also hosting flat people from Scotland, Chile, and Missouri. More pictures of our flat visitors coming soon......
